Poem with a straight line

Poem: Fernando Pessoa | Translation: André Morais

I never met anyone who was defeated
everyone I know are champions in everything
and I, who many times was ridicule, who was absurd,
I, who have being joked about and kept quite
and when I spoke against it I was even more ridicule
I, who have had shame in finances
I borrowed money and didn't pay back,
who, when the time to fight came,
I've fled from the possibility of the fight.
I verify that I have no pair on this in the world.

Everybody I know and that talks to me
they never did anything ridicule,
they were princes, all of them, princes in life.

God! How I wish I could hear the human voice
the one which confessed not a sin, but a vice
the one which toled me not about violence, but about cowardice

Princes, my brothers, where are the normal people of this world?

The women could not want them, they could be cheated, they could have mistaken
but ridicule they were not, never

And I, who have being ridicule without having being cheated
How can I talk to my superiours without the help of a bear from time to time?
